En una finca, ubicada en el Valle del Sinú, departamento de Córdoba, con el objetivo de evaluar el efecto de la suplementación con semilla sobre el peso y la condición corporal de novillas en los últimos 30 días antes del parto, se tomaron trece novillas F1 Holstein x Cebú (HxC) y fueron distribuidas en dos grupos: grupo 1 (G1) conformado por 7 novillas que recibieron, además del pastoreo, 2kg de semilla de algodón; grupo 2 (G2), conformado por 6 novillas, que sólo tuvieron acceso a pastoreo. Después del parto hasta la semana catorce, se evaluó el efecto de la suplementación energética - proteica y el sistema de amamantamiento sobre el peso y la condición corporal para lo cual se conformaron 4 tratamientos: T1 conformado por 4 vacas, suplementadas con 2 kilogramos de semilla de algodón y amamantamiento experimental; T2 conformado por 3 vacas, suplementadas con 2 kilogramos de semilla de algodón y amamantamiento tradicional; T3 conformado por 3 vacas, sin suplemento y amamantamiento experimental; T4 conformado por 3 vacas sin suplemento y amamantamiento tradicional . Se utilizó un diseño completamente al azar con arreglo factorial 2 x 2 y para el análisis de resultados se empleó análisis de varianza. No se presento efecto (P>0.05) de los tratamientos pre y posparto sobre el peso y la condición corporal de los animales, resultado en parte coincidente y en parte contrario a trabajos experimentales disponibles en la literatura consultada.
